Learn it at GANADA KOREAN in Hongdae and use it the same day — everyday Korean

If you want to pick up Korean quickly, the environment where you actually use what you have learned matters as much as class time. GANADA KOREAN is a specialist Korean language institute in the Hongdae and Yeonnam-dong neighbourhood, which makes it easy to practise what you covered in class straight away — in cafés, restaurants, markets and on public transport.

GANADA KOREAN has been teaching Korean since 1991 and runs its classes on finely graded courses from complete beginner to advanced, using textbooks it develops in-house. The aim is not simply to add grammar knowledge but to build the communication skills a foreign learner can actually use while living in Seoul.

Why location matters when choosing a Korean language school

A difficulty foreigners often meet when studying Korean is the gap between textbook phrases and real conversation. You may be able to solve a grammar exercise and still freeze when you have to change your order, ask for directions, or answer a follow-up question.

Around GANADA KOREAN there are plenty of everyday spaces: the Gyeongui Line Forest Park in Yeonnam-dong, Hongdae's walking street, Mangwon Market, and the streets around Sinchon and Ewha. Expressions you learn in class — buying something, making plans, using transport, describing what you like — can be tried out in a real situation the same day. When the gap between learning and using gets that short, new expressions are easier to remember.

Can a complete beginner start with everyday expressions?

Someone who has never studied Korean can start too. The beginner course begins with the Hangul consonants and vowels, final consonants and pronunciation rules, then widens into high-frequency expressions such as greetings, introducing yourself, saying numbers and buying things.

If you have studied Korean before, an online or in-person level test will place you in a class that matches your current ability. The regular course at GANADA KOREAN is divided into 13 levels from beginner to advanced, so someone who knows plenty of grammar but struggles to speak, and someone who can hold a conversation but wants to shore up reading and writing, can each adjust their starting point.

What an average class of 7–8 does for your speaking

In a language class, the number of students is tied directly to how much you actually speak. GANADA KOREAN aims for classes of around 7–8 students and runs activities where learners take part directly: questions and answers, pair work, role play and individual presentations.

In a class where you only listen to the teacher's explanation, you may feel you have understood and still get stuck when building a sentence on your own. Using the grammar you have learned to talk about your own experience, then turning the question back to a classmate from another country, makes you use the expression actively. Having a wrong sentence corrected on the spot, and checking the nuance between similar expressions, is another strength of small communication-focused classes.

How the in-house textbooks connect to real life in Korea

Classes use the 'New GANADA KOREAN' series developed by the school itself. The textbooks link everyday dialogues with situational grammar, listening, reading and speaking activities, and English, Japanese and Chinese translations, a workbook and a vocabulary book are available alongside them by level.

The beginner levels deal with situations you need right away — restaurants, shopping, transport, travel — and from intermediate onwards the focus expands to explaining experiences and opinions in detail. Advanced courses handle more complex material: news, society and culture, presentations and discussion. It is less about finishing a book than about widening, step by step, the functions you need in your current life.

Korean and cultural experience that continues outside the classroom

GANADA KOREAN offers a cultural experience once a month. Through outings and visits, cooking, crafts and exchange activities, it is a programme where you use Korean with the friends you met in class while experiencing the culture.

The point of a cultural experience is not sightseeing alone. Deciding on a place together, asking what to bring, describing how an activity felt — all of it becomes everyday conversation. Using Korean as the common language with learners from many countries also lowers the pressure of talking outside class.

Learners GANADA KOREAN suits well

It is worth considering for foreigners starting Korean for the first time in Hongdae, for anyone who wants to connect grammar knowledge to real conversation, and for anyone who wants to experience Korean culture with friends of many nationalities. Alongside the morning regular class there are evening and Saturday classes, a conversation class, a TOPIK class and private lessons, so you can discuss what fits your length of stay and your schedule.

Before enrolling, it helps to put together your current level, the days you can attend, and the area you most want to improve. Even within the same beginner band, someone who needs to start from Hangul and someone who can listen but finds speaking hard have different goals. Using a consultation and level test at GANADA KOREAN, you can plan from the Korean your own life actually calls for.
