GANADA — a Korean story that begins in Hongdae
Episode 03. 주말에 뭐 했어요? (What did you do on the weekend?)
“I’ve been studying Korean for over a year.
But I still can’t get the words out in front of Korean people.”
It’s something we often hear from students learning Korean.
They know lots of words and have learned quite a bit of grammar.
They understand the textbook, and they score well on tests.
But the moment they meet a Korean person, their mind suddenly goes blank.
“What am I supposed to say?”
It can feel as if all the Korean they knew has vanished.
But there’s nothing strange about it.
With a language, knowing it in your head and saying it out loud are two different things.
Just as you can read all the books you like about riding a bike and still not ride one until you push the pedals yourself,
Korean also needs time spent actually speaking.
That’s why, in GANADA’s classes, we care more about speaking first than about not making mistakes.
The teacher asks,
“주말에 뭐 하셨어요?” (What did you do on the weekend?)
After thinking for a moment,
“친구… 만났어요.” (I… met a friend.)
It’s fine if it’s a little clumsy.
You say it once, say it again, and polish it to sound a bit more natural.
And then one day, after class, you use the very same words in a café in Hongdae.
At that moment, the Korean you learned in the classroom finally becomes yours.
Being good at Korean may not mean speaking perfectly.
It may mean being able to start the conversation first, even if you make a few mistakes.
That brave kind of Korean is what GANADA wants to teach.
🌿 Today’s Hongdae mission
Ask a Korean person one question today.
“주말에 뭐 하셨어요?”
Don’t think too long trying to make the perfect sentence.
Just say it once.
Because Korean becomes a little more yours from the moment you speak it.
GANADA KOREAN Hongdae
Not the place where your Korean begins,
but the place where your Korea story begins.
